Sandeep Das & Friends 6:00PM
Shastriya Sangeet, the classical music of the Indian subcontinent, is a vibrant, living tradition known for its emotional depth, rich melodies, and intricate rhythms. In this intimate onstage setting—where you sit alongside the musicians amidst a mesmerizing dialogue of exotic instruments—the program explores the Navarasa, the nine essential moods in Indian art, from heroism to romance and beyond, alongside rhythmic works inspired by a creative dialogue with the Princeton University Department of Mathematics. Curated by Grammy Award–winning tabla virtuoso Sandeep Das alongside Jay Gandhi on bansuri flute and Abhik Mukherjee on sitar, the evening offers an immersive journey into a musical tradition that has been shaped over four millennia and has also inspired composers such as Olivier Messiaen, Philip Glass, and John Cage.
